"Nectar points are a great incentive and a way to gamify tasks and projects to increase employee engagement."One of my favorite parts about working at Nectar is hearing how customers have used our point system to gamify the workplace through shoutouts, challenges, and awards. We often hear that Nectar points are used like a currency at their company.–Do you need someone to help set up at an event? Offer them Nectar points.–Do you need someone to attend a new training? Offer them Nectar points.–Do you want to make sure someone is reading your latest internal newsletter? Nectar points. Our points also come in handy at the individual level as employees need help with tasks like creating a presentation, taking on a shift, or getting a ride to work. Employees have control over a small budget of points to celebrate their colleagues. It's amazing what tying recognition to a points system can do.

It's time for a weekly recognition moment.Recognition is best when it's authentic and personalized, but it should also happen often. In a recent Nectar survey, we found that 29% of employees want weekly recognition, and 34% want monthly recognition. How do you appease those employees? Reflect on the week and recognize colleagues based on that. So, every Friday, I'm going to share a recognition prompt. Whether you use Nectar, an email, a Slack chat, or a carrier pigeon, I'd love for you to join. Although, I don't know how effective a carrier pigeon is. 🤔This week, we're reflecting on who made you feel great at your job this week.Feeling competent at work isn't always easy. We've all had moments when we feel unsure or like an imposter. Certain colleagues and even family and friends can lift us up and remind us of our worth. Are you going to recognize someone today?

There are no overnight success stories, only stories of consistency paying off.Whether you are talking about building a company culture or advancing your career, hard work and patience get you far.Yesterday, Nectar's domain rating in Ahrefs finally crossed over to 70. When I first started, it was around 59/60. To get there, it took nearly two years of:–Consistent and helpful blog content.–Ranking for new keywords.–Adding new backlinks. We still have a long way to go, but this is a great milestone to celebrate. 🎉 My tip for you is simple: don't get discouraged by the time it takes to get where you want to be. Set a goal, celebrate the milestones along the way, and take your time. The journey to where you want to be can be pretty cool, too.

The greatest projects are where they are today because someone wasn't afraid to release Version 1.0.Bells and whistles come with testing, listening to consumers, and refining from there. This doesn't mean you put out an inferior product or something that doesn't work. But, you should be clear about what's feasible and make sure you sell the reality first, then the vision.I think about this concept a lot (even in content.) While the internet can feel permanent, there's an edit button for a reason. You can update content and make it more relevant as you get information like comments, shares, demo requests, backlinks, etc.Don't get so caught up in perfecting the first iteration of your idea that you forget to execute it.

Thanks to the power of surveys, Nectar statistics have been featured on sites like Zendesk, HubSpot, Fast Company, Entrepreneur, DoorDash for Business, Uber for Business, Toggl, Technology Advice, and so many more. This list doesn't even mention all the competitor sites using our data on their blogs.I never would have been able to pitch these sites with a guest post. Global teams, sites with hundreds of contributors, or competitors who likely go up against your company often? Yeah, it's not easy to track down a person to collaborate with under those circ*mstances. But I didn't get all of these backlinks overnight. I published my first statistics article at the end of 2022, and I got all of the links above in the last year.I started with a couple of guest posts with friendly content managers I knew in the space. That gave me the first few backlinks I needed to show Google that I meant business. Then, as Google ranked my article higher, other content writers and managers began looking at our piece and including the stats in their articles. It's a slow process, but looking at what has been accomplished in the last year, I'm proud of the work we did to put out our initial statistics article in 2022.

This weekend was full of family and doing my best to avoid the heat. 🔥Every June, a bunch of people from my hometown gather back there to hang out, play games, eat food, and get outside for two days.Although I’m still recovering from mosquito bites, it was a good time.I hope your weekend went well and you feel refreshed to start another week!

For most companies, core values are just a poster in the break room, but they should mean more.Core values teach employees what behaviors the company wants more of while teaching employees what the company stands for.Recently, we surveyed 1,000 employees in the United States about core values. Overall, 88% of employees shared that their company had core values, and 75% of those employees shared that they could name them. When we broke these questions down by employee recognition software usage, we found some interesting insights.Employees without access to recognition software shared that 82% of their companies had core values, but only 59% of those employees could name them.On the opposite side, 92% of employees with access to software said their company had core values, and 86% could name them. The differences are obvious: the positive reinforcement and constant communication of your values that come from recognition software make a difference in core values adoption. If you want your values to be more than a poster in a break room, invest in a recognition tool.#EmployeeRecognition #CoreValuesPS: My favorite Nectar value is Owner Mentality! 👩🏾💻

Yesterday, Nectar released Nominations! Our engineering team has been hard at work making the best end-to-end solution for nomination programs. My favorite feature is what we do after the awards close. We make it easy for companies to reward nomination winners and share feedback with all the nominees.Winners receive Nectar points from the company, and we can even pin messages to the home feed so other employees can add on points and send their congratulations. We also wanted to ensure that nominees received praise. Nectar admins can choose to share praise with nominees publicly or privately. This feature lets nominees know that their colleagues wrote kind messages about them, even if they didn't ultimately win. Our process impacts your entire team because they know their kind words will be delivered even if they don't write about the award winner.Ready to dive into the step-by-step process of creating a nomination with Nectar? I've got you covered in the comments!

The first 90 days aren't just a probationary period for employers to see if a new worker is a great fit; employees are also evaluating companies. When we asked 1,000 employees if they had ever quit a job within 90 days of joining the company, 29% said yes. It gets even more interesting when you break things down by age.45% of employees in the 18-24 age range shared that they have quit a job within 90 days. The other age ranges fell between 24% and 32%.It doesn't always take long to realize that a company isn't a great fit for you. But what can companies do to ensure employees feel welcome in their new jobs?–Make sure your job description matches the job duties.–Give new team members lots of support and training.–Recognize new team members who take initiative. Don't feel you need to hoard recognition for their first performance review.–Talk with new hires early and often to ensure you meet their needs and expectations.–Come to terms with the fact that some employees will leave early. It might put you behind on your recruiting goals, but it's better to know now than a year from now.Have you ever quit a job within 90 days of joining?

Layoffs have a massive impact on the employees who leave and the ones who stay.In a recent Nectar survey, we asked employees if their company had recently had a layoff. Unsurprisingly, the employees who said yes were also impacted in other areas. These employees were more likely to be:–Planning to look for work in the next three months.–Worrying about job security in their current roles.–Experiencing the Sunday Scaries as they plan to return to work.–Experiencing burnout in the workplace. As layoffs continue to roll out across industries, it is important to take care of the team you have left. Often, these employees are dealing with new team dynamics, taking on new roles/responsibilities, and feeling insecure about their long-term position at the company.Today's Nectar blog uncovers the data around the impact of layoffs and gives some great expert-backed tips on how companies can help.
